http://thedevineevidence.com/jesus_similarities.html

According to this the similarities with Christ and other beliefs have been fabricated.

What do you think?

There will always be similarities - or points of contact and agreement - between ours and other faiths, which I believe should be celebrated.  Anyone can accuse someone else of fabricating stuff, we don't like it if we are so accused therefore we should be careful of saying it to others, especially if they have dearly held beliefs.  Coincidentally I was reading about Sikhism last night and thought how sensible and compassionate many of their beliefs are.  It wouldn't make me a Sikh but I would certainly respect Sikhs.

Hi Cymnot,

Not the point I was making about the similarities.
Rather the fact that the connection is fabricated.

Good to hear from you.

I don't think it's a very good article.

It gives too much credence to biblical prophecies, none of which pass the most basic of criteria.

What criteria and why doesn't it pass.
Take Christ for instance. How didn't he pass the biblical prophecies about himself?

It is too specific regarding terminology at the start and yet is very loose with details towards the end.

I didn't see that at all. Terminology after all is real about application of thought about the object/subjectt being discussed.
That sentence means nothing when looking at the article.
May be a little more details and actualy application would explain where you are coming from.

For example, it plays fast and loose with the idea of 'virgin' birth, assuming it means that the mother was virgo intacta, which is not what the phrase means.

You fail to take the obvious into account.
The Hebrew use of young maiden is that she would not have been married and would be a virgin if a maiden in those times.
It is not so much the phrase but the application at the time and the fact a woman would only be referred to as a maiden had she been single and therefore expected to be a virgin.
Which in the case of Mary she was.

It completely ignores any similarities in message, teaching, religious structure, etc.

Whose religious structure, etc?

It could have been written by Alan on R&E - and that's not a compliment!

But that is merely an opinion and shows bias in your thought toward the article. After all, what evidence is there that any religious or non-religious information is correct?
